17NiCrMo6-4

17NiCrMo6-4 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, designed to be case-hardened, i.e. treated to achieve a high surface hardness combined with a tough and resistant core.

Chemical composition

17NiCrMo6-4 / 17NiCrMoS6-4

ISO Standard

1.6566 / 16569

The 17NiCrMo6-4 is a steel alloyed nickel-chromium-molybdenumdesigned to be cementedi.e. treated to obtain ahigh surface hardness combined with a tenacious and resistant heart. It is a widely used material for components subject to surface wear e dynamic stresses.

Perfectly workable in precision small parts with diameters between 3 and 32 mm e lengths up to 250 mmIt is suitable for production on CNC and multispindle lathes.

Why use 17NiCrMo6-4 - Case hardening alloy steel?

1
Hard surface, tough core (after cementing)
- Surface up to 60-62 HRC after heat treatment
- Excellent internal toughness thanks to the bainitic/martensitic microstructure
- Excellent behaviour at shocks and cyclical loads
2
Excellent fatigue and wear resistance
- Ideal for moving or geared components
- High service life even in environments with imperfect lubrication
3
Good workability before cementing
- Easy to turn in the annealed state
- Can be easily ground after heat treatment
4
Excellent response to heat treatment
- Hardening and tempering guarantee high mechanical performance
- Also compatible with nitriding and light reclamation
