L'AVP (Fast Leaded Steel)also known as 11SMnPb37is an automatic leaded steel characterised by aexcellent workability and one optimal machinability. Thanks to the addition of lead (Pb) and sulphur (S), it facilitates turning and milling operations, making it one of the most widely used materials for the production of precision mechanical small parts.

It is particularly suitable for machining on automatic lathes e CNCespecially for the manufacture of small components with diameters between 3 and 32 mm and lengths up to 250 mmas in your production.

When to avoid AVP (11SMnPb37)?

If high corrosion resistance is required → It is not stainless, so in wet or corrosive environments it is better to use AISI 303, 304 or 316.

If good weldability is required → Lead compromises solderability, making it difficult and unreliable.

In applications subject to high loads or prolonged fatigue → In such cases it is better to prefer alloyed or quenched and tempered steels.

If compliance with ecological regulations is required → The presence of lead can be a limit for regulated sectors (food, medical, drinking water).

When to avoid galvanised AVP?

If high mechanical strength is required → Not suitable for high loads or high-wear environments. Better PR80 or PR70.

If extreme corrosion resistance is required → Galvanising protects, but is not comparable to the AISI 303, 304 or 316 stainless steel.

If it is necessary to weld the part → The AVP does not weld well and the galvanising must be removed before welding.

If lead is banned in the area of application → Does not comply with environmental regulations such as ROHS and REACH (better AVZ or PR70).

L'Galvanised AVP is an economical and versatile solution for small mechanical high workability and moderate corrosion protection. It is ideal for mechanical, hydraulic, building and furniture componentsbut it is not suitable for heavy-duty use or in very corrosive environments, where a stronger stainless steel or alloy steel is preferable.
