The PR80also known as 36SMnPb14, is a automatic lead and manganese steel high mechanical resistance. Thanks to the combination of sulphur (S) to improve workability, manganese (Mn) to increase resistance and lead (Pb) to promote chipability, it is widely used in the precision mechanical small parts.
It is ideal for the realisation of components subjected to high loads and in need of high machinability on automatic or CNC latheswith diameters between 3 and 32 mm and lengths up to 250 mmas in your production.

When to avoid PR80 (36SMnPb14)?
If high corrosion resistance is required → It is not stainless, so in wet or aggressive environments it is better to use AISI 303, 304 or 316.
If good weldability is required → Lead and sulphur make soldering difficult and less resistant.
If the industry imposes lead restrictions → In food, medical or ROHS/REACH applications, it is better to use lead-free steels such as AVZ (11SMn37).
If high ductility is required → It is less tough than low-carbon steels.

When to avoid galvanised PR80?

If good weldability is required → Lead and sulphur content worsens solderability.
If the part has to withstand extreme stress → For very high loads, a stronger alloy steel is preferable.
