ERGAL 6061

Ergal 6061 is a medium-high-strength aluminium alloy with excellent machinability, corrosion resistance and good weldability.

Chemical composition

AlMg1SiCu

ISO Standard

3.3211

It is less resistant than the 7075but offers a better compromise between mechanical strength, lightness and workabilitymaking it ideal for precision mechanical small parts with diameters between 3 and 32 mm e lengths up to 250 mm.

Why use Ergal 6061?

1
Good mechanical resistance
- Tensile strength between 310-330 MPa (inferior to 7075, but superior to other aluminas)
- Excellent for structural components and parts subject to moderate load
2
Lightness
- Lower weight than steels (approx. 1/3 of the weight), but with good robustness
3
Excellent corrosion resistance
- Much higher than the 7075thanks to the presence of magnesium and silicon
- Ideal for applications in wet and marine environments
4
Excellent workability
- Easy to machine with lathes and milling cutters
- Good surface finish for precision small parts
5
Good weldability
- Unlike the 7075, 6061 welds easily
- Perfect for components requiring assembly by welding
6
Resistance to wear and fatigue
- Excellent durability for parts subject to repeated stress
7
Possibility of anodising
- Can be anodised to improve corrosion resistance and aesthetics

When to avoid Ergal 6061?

If needed extreme mechanical resistance (better the 7075)

For very high structural loads (alternatively steel or titanium)

In applications with temperatures above 200°C
